A Different Slant 060: Measure D Finale

Host John Flavin notes the money and the effort expended by the supporters of Measure D, the fire annexation, and reports his suspicions as to why the firefighters, the union and the three Sausalito City Council supporters of the annexation want the measure to pass. John doesn’t believe it’s a coincidence that the City Council vote on the Housing Element was postponed until after the results of the Measure D public vote are known.

A Different Slant 059: Memorial Day 2012

Host John Flavin uses the current turmoil over Measure D as an example of the democracy that so many have paid the ultimate price to defend. He encourages his listeners to celebrate, not bemoan, disagreement and to honor the fallen by exercising democracy, reading all the material and then voting on Measure D and all the ballot issues on an informed basis.

A Different Slant 058: It’s the Business Deal

Host John Flavin wants to paraphrase Bill Clinton and advise the proponents of Measure D that “It’s the Business Deal. . .” The Measure D business terms do not connect the price we are paying for fire protection to the cost of providing the service and the Fire District wins if the cost is lower or higher than the 45% of our property taxes. John also lays out how nearly impossible it would be to reverse the annexation and how pensions will add to the cost of the measure going forward. Many of the proponents of Measure D were architects of the ugly and irresponsible financing of the public safety buildings. They oversimplified that financing and they are doing the same with respect to Measure D. Vote No on D.

A Different Slant 057: Who to Trust on Measure D

Host John Flavin present facts to assist his listeners in reaching a decision as to whether to trust the Yes supporters of Measure D. He reviews the quality of the report that is the sole basis for Measure D, the admission by the Yes folks that there is a less expensive option than a standalone fire department when Measure D does not pass and finally the questionable circumstances surrounding the financing of the public safety buildings. Sausalito taxpayers are paying a $10 million premium for this odd financing structure and its champions are the same people supporting Yes on Measure D.
